Kareena Kapoor Raises Concern Over Bollywood’s Growing Obsession With Violent and Gritty Films

Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has expressed concern over what she believes is a growing trend of excessive violence and dark themes in modern Hindi cinema. The Bollywood star recently shared her views on how many contemporary films appear to focus heavily on gore, crime, and hyper-masculine characters, leaving little space for the vibrant and romantic storytelling that once defined the industry. 

Speaking about the current direction of Bollywood, Kareena said that many recent movies seem to lack the fun, colour, and emotional warmth that earlier films used to celebrate. She pointed out that traditional Bollywood cinema was known for its lively songs, grand dance sequences, romantic narratives, and a strong sense of entertainment. According to her, those elements are gradually disappearing as filmmakers increasingly lean toward intense, violent, and darker storylines.

The actor explained that while action-packed and gritty films may currently be popular with audiences, it is important to maintain balance in storytelling. She believes that cinema should also provide joy, energy, and emotional connection rather than focusing solely on brutality and aggression. For Kareena, the charm of Hindi films lies in their ability to combine music, romance, drama, and entertainment in a colourful cinematic experience.

Kareena also hinted that audience demand plays a role in shaping these trends. As viewers show interest in darker narratives and larger-than-life macho heroes, filmmakers may feel encouraged to produce more such projects. However, she suggested that the industry should still explore diverse themes and bring back stories that highlight love, relationships, and musical spectacle.
