Amid a storm of controversy and allegations, JD(S) Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna finds himself at the center of a high-profile investigation into sexual abuse allegations. Recent reports indicate that Prajwal Revanna, who had been abroad amidst the probe, is now expected to surrender to the police, as per his father HD Revanna’s advice.
Explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna surfaced in Hassan, prompting the state government to launch a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the accusations against the MP, who is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure Prajwal Revanna’s return for investigation, stating, “Wherever Prajwal Revanna is, we will track his location to ensure his return.”
As pressure mounts, Prajwal Revanna is reportedly preparing to surrender himself to the Karnataka police’s Special Investigation Team, following the counsel of his father, HD Revanna. The Karnataka police has issued a Blue Corner notice against Prajwal Revanna, seeking Interpol’s assistance to bring him back to India. This notice aims to gather additional information about Prajwal Revanna’s identity, location, or activities related to the alleged crime.
Meanwhile, HD Revanna, a prominent JDS leader, finds himself embroiled in legal troubles as well. He was arrested by the SIT on allegations of sexual assault against several women, following a court’s denial of relief in a kidnapping case. HD Revanna has been remanded to police custody until May 8. The arrest stemmed from a kidnapping case filed against him at the KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru, related to the same “obscene video” case implicating his son, Prajwal Revanna. Additionally, one Sathish Babanna was arrested in connection with the abduction, and the victim was rescued from a farmhouse.
HD Revanna has denounced his arrest as a political conspiracy, claiming innocence and lack of evidence to support the allegations against him. He asserted that the accusations are part of a larger political scheme aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman weighed in on the controversy, accusing the Congress government in Karnataka of delaying action against Prajwal Revanna despite being aware of the allegations for about a year. Sitharaman alleged that the Congress party remained silent on the matter until after the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections out of fear of losing Vokkaliga votes, accusing them of hypocrisy.
The unfolding events surrounding Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna underscore the intense political dynamics at play in Karnataka. As investigations continue and legal proceedings unfold, the allegations against the father-son duo have sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape, with ramifications that extend beyond individual reputations to broader implications for the state’s governance and electoral landscape.
