Police stated that CCTV footage secured from South Calcutta Law College has validated the claims made by the student in her rape complaint. The video, which also recorded events preceding the June 25 incident, depicts the first-year law student being pressured into the guard’s room.
“The CCTV footage confirms the girl’s allegations. It shows the movements of the three accused, the security guard, and the victim. We are currently examining the footage,” the police told news agency PTI on Saturday.
Police have gathered evidence such as hair strands, a hockey stick from the student union room, the restroom, and the guard’s room, further supporting the survivor’s allegations.
The confiscated items consist of hair strands, multiple bottles with unidentified liquids, and a hockey stick. In her complaint, the student claimed that the defendant had threatened her using a hockey stick.
So far, three individuals, among them a student leader from the Trinamool Congress, have been detained in relation to the case.
The following day, the event was newsworthy, and her medical report indicated evidence of violence and non-consensual sexual activity. The medical assessment took place on Friday. This event occurs just ten months after the horrific rape and killing of a medical student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata stunned the country. The results of the medical examination indicated an abrasion around the woman’s neck and several marks on her breasts. The report also stated that there were no cuts (lacerations) on her body.
The student claimed she was gang-raped on June 25 after turning down a marriage proposal from the primary suspect, 31-year-old Monojit Mishra, a former student and the current general secretary of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). Two others — who were also students at the college — stood nearby and observed the crime occurring.
