After the successful trial operation in the West-bound tunnel connecting Sealdah to Esplanade, Metro Railway Kolkata declared an enhancement in services on Green Line-2, aiding passengers starting from 23 January.

Beginning Thursday (23 January), the weekday services along the route rose from 114 to 130. Trains will run between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations from 7:00 am to 9:45 pm. At peak times, specifically from 9 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm, trains will run every 12 minutes.

During off-peak times, services will operate every 15 minutes in both the East-bound and West-bound tunnels. Sunday schedules have been revised to include 62 services on Green Line-2, an increase from the earlier 46 services.

According to the statement, trains will run between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations from 2:15 pm to 9:45 pm in 15-minute intervals. The modifications are part of continuous initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and convenience for travelers as construction on the East-West Metro Corridor progresses.

Services along the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch have been updated periodically since November 2024 to support the corridor’s growth. This project seeks to improve daily travel and bolster public transportation facilities on both sides of the Hooghly River.
