Kunal Kamra’s letter to Mumbai Police after skipping third summons in Shinde row

Comic Kunal Kamra, who faced backlash following his joke about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that ignited a major controversy, sent a letter to Mumbai Police asking for his statement to be taken through video conferencing.
The comedian’s appeal followed the Khar Police Station serving him with three summonses, requesting his presence for questioning about the contentious remark that has ignited extensive discussion. A third summons was sent to him on April 2, instructing him to meet with the police on April 5 for questioning.
Nonetheless, Kamra did not adhere to these summons, prompting him to ask for a video conference option to provide his testimony. The Khar Police have not yet reacted to Kamra’s recent request.
On April 4, a group of police officers from Khar Police Station arrived in Pondicherry to look into the FIR filed against him. Kamra is a long-term resident of Tamil Nadu.
In the meantime, Kamra has obtained temporary anticipatory bail in the case until April 7 from the Madras high court, offering provisional protection from arrest in a jurisdiction other than where the FIR has been registered.
On March 24, the Khar police filed a case against Kamra following a complaint from Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel regarding his show ‘Naya Bharat’, in which he called Shinde a ‘gaddar’ (traitor). Sources had previously informed India Today TV that Kamra informed police officials he would assist with the investigations, but at that moment he was not in Mumbai. He also informed the police that he ‘will not apologize’ for his comments, sources stated.
