India’s rising badminton star Lakshya Sen has embarked on a journey to Austria for an intensive physical assessment at the prestigious Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre in Salzburg. The 22-year-old from Almora, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal in Paris, finishing in fourth place, is determined to optimize his fitness and performance ahead of key tournaments in the BWF circuit.
Sen’s trip to Austria marks a significant step in his preparation for upcoming challenges. The detailed evaluation at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre aims to enhance his physical condition through a series of specialized tests. These assessments are designed to refine his strength and overall fitness, ensuring he is in peak form for future competitions.
Accompanying Sen on this crucial trip are his trainer, Gaurav, and 15-year-old junior shuttler Nishchal Chand from Uttarakhand. Their presence is intended to support Sen’s training regimen and help maintain his game during the assessment week. The focus of these tests will be on specific strength aspects critical to badminton, a sport known for its high intensity and physical demands.
In a recent update, Vimal Kumar, Sen’s coach, highlighted the importance of this assessment. “Lakshya is heading to Austria for a comprehensive physical assessment. The sports institute there is renowned for its expertise in physical training. He will undergo tests that focus on specific strength aspects to ensure he is in top shape before he starts his full training regime,” Kumar explained.
The comprehensive physical evaluation is essential for addressing any lingering niggles or injuries that could affect Sen’s performance. Although Sen is currently injury-free, Kumar emphasized the necessity of a precise strength and conditioning program to prevent future injuries and enhance overall performance. Consulting with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala for any past issues, Sen’s team aims to tailor his training to his specific needs, optimizing his readiness for the demanding season ahead.
Following his assessment in Austria, Sen is expected to compete in the Hong Kong Super 500 and the China Open Super 1000 tournaments, scheduled for late September. These high-profile events will test his readiness and serve as a platform to gauge the effectiveness of his intensive training.
Badminton’s fast-paced nature requires athletes to be in exceptional physical condition, as Kumar noted. “Lakshya needs to improve various fitness aspects, including speed and endurance. The sport demands high levels of energy for quick defensive and offensive transitions. Managing the shuttle’s speed and controlling the drift are crucial elements that require peak physical fitness,” Kumar added.
As Sen continues to refine his skills and physical condition, his commitment to enhancing his performance is evident. This strategic approach to his training and fitness will be pivotal in achieving his goals and maintaining his competitive edge in the global badminton arena. With his sights set on future success, Lakshya Sen’s dedication to optimizing his physical prowess underscores his determination to excel in the sport and secure victories on the international stage.
