After being arrested last week for strolling the streets of Los Angeles in his undies, rapper Lil Nas X entered a not guilty plea to charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
In addition to one felony accusation of resisting arrest, the rapper, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, faces three felony counts of violence with harm to a police officer. He might spend up to five years behind bars if found guilty.
According to police, the Grammy-winning performer charged at them after they answered a complaint about a naked guy roving the streets. The incident occurred early Thursday morning, and authorities said he was brought to the hospital for a probable overdose.
Unconfirmed footage and pictures released by TMZ seem to show the rapper pacing the streets before to the fight with the police. They feature the Old Town Road singer, dressed just in white underpants and white cowboy boots, dancing down a Studio City street in Los Angeles.
He was later spotted wandering in the middle of a road while fully nude. He can be seen rapping the words of Kayne West’s song “Monster” as he approaches a passing car in footage released by TMZ. In contrast, it appears that a bystander picked up his white cowboy boots and put them up for sale on eBay with a $10,000 price tag.
The BBC was informed by LA police that they had been called to a scene of a naked man strolling down Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. When police arrived on the scene, he charged at them, according to officer Drake Madison.
Following the arrest, Lil Nas X was detained for the weekend. Nathan Hochman, the district attorney for Los Angeles County, reported that three cops were hurt in the process of attempting to apprehend the rapper.
“Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety,” he said on Monday. “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”
The rapper is expected to release his much-anticipated second studio album Dreamboy later this year, and has recently teased new music on Instagram.
