The trustees of Mumbai’s famous Lilavati Hospital, currently in the spotlight for suspected embezzlement, have asserted that they have discovered proof of black magic ceremonies taking place on its grounds. They stated that beneath the office floor of the current trustees, eight urns were discovered, containing human bones, skulls, hair, rice, and various objects linked to occult practices.
The finding came about due to insights from ex-employees and was captured on video while excavating. This followed the hospital trust initiating an embezzlement case of over Rs 1,250 crore against its past trustees, who reportedly diverted the money via deceptive orders and documentation.
Three FIRs were filed regarding the suspected financial misappropriation involving former trustees, such as Vijay Mehta, who is the sibling of Kishore Mehta, the founder of Lilavati Hospital, along with his relatives and associates. Furthermore, accusations of tax evasion and theft were also filed against the former trustees.
A further complaint was submitted under the Maharashtra Anti-Black Magic Act after hospital staff provided evidence of alleged black magic rituals used by the former trustees against Prashant Mehta and his mother, Charu Mehta. Officials stated that in 2002, Kishore Mehta went overseas for medical care, while his brother, Vijay Mehta, temporarily managed the trust.
Vijay Mehta reportedly falsified documents and signatures to designate his sons and nephews as trustees, simultaneously dismissing Kishore Mehta as a permanent trustee. This resulted in an extended legal conflict, which concluded in 2016 when Kishore Mehta regained his role.
After the passing of Kishore Mehta in 2024, his son Prashant Mehta took over as the permanent trustee. Prashant performed a forensic audit of the accounts, revealing serious financial discrepancies, such as embezzlement via fraudulent orders and documentation.
