Lucknow Super Giants Rope in George Linde as Hasaranga Replacement for IPL 2026

The Lucknow Super Giants have signed South African all-rounder George Linde as a replacement for injured Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026. The decision comes after Hasaranga was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Hasaranga, a key acquisition for the franchise, had been expected to play a vital role with his leg-spin and lower-order batting. However, his injury, sustained earlier in international cricket, has forced the team to look for alternatives midway through the season. His absence is considered a setback for Lucknow, given his ability to influence matches in the T20 format.
In response, the franchise moved swiftly to bring in Linde, an experienced T20 campaigner known for his all-round skills. The 34-year-old adds depth to both the batting and bowling departments, offering a left-handed batting option along with his slow left-arm orthodox spin. Although this will be Linde’s first stint in the IPL, he brings with him significant experience from international cricket and various global T20 leagues.
Team management reportedly evaluated multiple candidates before finalising Linde as the most suitable replacement. His versatility and ability to contribute in different match situations were key factors behind the decision. He is expected to strengthen Lucknow’s spin attack while also providing stability in the lower middle order. The signing highlights Lucknow Super Giants’ intent to remain competitive despite injury setbacks. With the IPL season entering a crucial phase, the team will be looking for Linde to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.
