7TH JULY INDIA GENERAL NEWS AGNIBEENA GHOSH
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced plans to hold Rath Yatra in Digha from next year, following the construction of a Jagannath temple complex in Purba Medinipur district. This initiative mirrors the famous Rath Yatra held annually in Puri, Odisha.
Banerjee expressed her happiness in unveiling the upcoming temple complex dedicated to Lord Jagannath in Digha, emphasizing that it will be a source of pride for the region. Similar to Puri, the temple will host rituals venerating Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, including the celebrated Rath Yatra.
Clarifying recent speculations, Banerjee affirmed that despite discussions, the Rath Yatra at Digha will commence only from next year. This delay is necessary to complete pending construction and procedural formalities before initiating the grand procession of Lord Jagannath’s chariot.
“The Rath Yatra of Digha will be observed with utmost reverence and solemnity. All are invited to join us in celebrating this auspicious occasion. Let the new abode of Lord Jagannath in Digha become a symbol of unity for India,” Banerjee affirmed in her statement.
On the occasion of Rath Yatra this year, Banerjee extended her greetings to the people, invoking blessings of peace, harmony, and prosperity through Lord Jagannath’s grace. She also announced her participation in the Rath Yatra organized by ISKCON in Kolkata, underscoring the widespread observance and significance of the festival across Bengal.
“Today, millions of people in Bengal will participate in the chariot festival. At the historic Mahesh and ISKCON Kolkata, I will join the procession in honor of Lord Jagannath,” Banerjee shared, highlighting the festive fervor that marks this auspicious day.
Looking ahead, Banerjee reassured the people of West Bengal of the forthcoming Rath Yatra festivities from the newly constructed Jagannath temple in Digha next year. “We eagerly await next year’s Rath Yatra at our new Jagannath Dham in Digha! Jai Jagannath!!!” she exclaimed, emphasizing the anticipation and significance of this upcoming addition to the state’s cultural and religious landscape.
The announcement of the new Jagannath temple and Rath Yatra in Digha reflects Banerjee’s commitment to honoring religious traditions while fostering cultural harmony and development in West Bengal. As preparations unfold, the temple complex promises to become a center of spiritual devotion and communal celebration, resonating with the sentiments of devotees and residents alike.
