Man introduces himself as army man , rapes woman in Chandigarh

A guy from Sikar, Rajasthan, was charged with raping a lady in Chandigarh under false pretenses of marriage after posing as an Indian Army officer, according to a Zero FIR filed by the Himachal Pradesh Police on Sunday. The Himachal Pradesh Police said that an area police station in the Kangra district of the state received the Zero FIR related to the December 2024 incident.

Lokender Singh Negi, DSP (Palampur), told , “The victim is a resident of Kangra, and the occurrence took place in Chandigarh . The suspect claimed to the victim that he was an Army officer with the rank of a captain. We forwarded the matter to the Chandigarh police for further investigation.”

According to sources, the victim told the police she met the suspect Sumit Badla on Instagram. “The two started communicating on social media and agreed to meet in Chandigarh. As per the victim’s statement, the suspect met her in Sector 8 and took her to a hotel wherein he allegedly raped her. The victim reported that she agreed to meet Sumit Badla when the latter promised her he would marry her. Later, he retracted from his promise and threatened to kill her,” said a source.

“The victim has provided a photo of the suspect to the police. These details about the suspect were forwarded to the Chandigarh police. The Chandigarh police also lodged an FIR at Sector 3 police station because Sector 8 falls under the jurisdiction of PS 3. The victim reported in her complaint that the suspect met her in Jalandhar  once, but he forcefully made physical relations with her in Chandigarh,” added the source.
