A huge blaze consumed the Kingdom of Dreams, one of Gurugram’s most well-known entertainment spots, in Sector 29 early Thursday morning, leaving sections of the property in ruins before firefighters had a chance to respond. Nonetheless, there were no fatalities since the building was closed off almost three years ago due to outstanding payments.
The fire department got an emergency call at approximately 6:50am, but fire officials reported that much of the building had already turned to ashes by the time they arrived.
Dense black smoke surged above the city skyline as over 10 fire trucks hurried to the location; it took them three hours to extinguish the fire.
“Six firefighting vehicles were dispatched from the Sector 29 fire station, while additional teams from Udyog Vihar, Bhim Nagar, Sector 37, and IMT Manesar were mobilised to contain the fire. After an intense hour-long battle, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, officials said that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown,” Gulshan Kalra, deputy director (technical) of Haryana Fire and Emergency Services, said.
This isn’t the initial fire occurrence at Kingdom of Dreams. In July 2023, another fire ignited in the basement, sparking worries about the property’s safety, which has stayed shut for almost three years.
The Kingdom of Dreams, previously a cultural icon and a center for live theater shows, was shut down by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in July 2022 due to outstanding payments totaling ₹107 crore.
