Microsoft is developing Copilot for Gaming, an innovative AI-driven assistant designed for Xbox players. The company located in Redmond, Washington, announced in a recent blog entry that its forthcoming assistant will help gamers save time by locating tutorials and other in-game support. Gaming Copilot can comprehend natural language instructions to install (or update) games, while also offering players a summary of their achievements. Microsoft states that the feature will first be accessible on smartphones, with Xbox Insiders receiving priority access to Copilot for Gaming.
As stated by Fatima Kardar, Xbox’s Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI, Copilot for Gaming serves as an AI-driven assistant for gamers. It can assist players in configuring games on their Xbox, suggest new titles, provide in-game support, or facilitate social interactions. Kardar stated that it will provide gamers with a customized experience, reflecting their preferences and behaviors.
With the forthcoming Copilot for Gaming function, gamers can utilize natural language commands — like “I’d like to return to Age of Empires, could you install it?” — and the assistant will initiate the download of the game onto the user’s Xbox gaming console. Players may also receive a summary of their advancement in a specific game or request the AI assistant to look for updates on the game.
Once it is released, Copilot for Gaming will offer contextual assistance when a gamer needs help, based on what they’re going at the time. “It’s not just about AI showing up to help you, it’s about AI showing up at the right moment. We really have to think about the experience we’ve built, it cannot be intrusive,” Kardar said.
According to the company, gamers will be able to dictate how the AI assistant functions, and this feature will be optional. Initially, it will be accessible on mobile through the Xbox Insider Program before it broadens to additional devices. Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s Vice President of Next Generation, stated that more than 1,000 games currently support Xbox Play Anywhere. Gamers can use a game purchased on one platform (Xbox) on their Windows PC, without needing to buy it again.
Ronald states that Xbox Play Anywhere games offer “more than 20 percent additional gameplay” in comparison to other titles. These games also provide extra advantages for players, including the option to view and synchronize Xbox game progress and saves, along with in-game achievements on their PC, and the other way around.
