At least 30 people were killed by a militia drone strike at a shelter for displaced persons in the western Sudanese city of El Fasher, according to a local activist group. The Dar al-Arqam displacement center, located on university property, was struck by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, according to the Resistance Committee for El Fasher.
The committee called it a “massacre” and urged the international community to step in, saying that bodies were still trapped under the debris. Since April 2023, the RSF has been engaged in a civil war with the Sudanese Armed Forces. Families in El Fasher are going hungry as a result of its militants’ more than 500-day siege.
One of the worst humanitarian catastrophes of the twenty-first century, according to the UN, is the war in Sudan. Over 14 million people have been displaced, and over 150,000 people have been killed.
In the absence of a successful international effort to stop the carnage, conflict has raged throughout the country, fueled by foreign forces.
