In a whimsical twist ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the beloved Minions have joined forces with top Olympians to inject some laughter and joy into their rigorous training routines. The collaboration, set to the upbeat tune of House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” is part of a promotional video released just ahead of the highly anticipated Despicable Me 4 film hitting theaters this July.
Among the Olympians featured in the promo is track and field star Noah Lyles, renowned for his Olympic bronze medal, six world titles, and numerous Diamond League Final victories. Lyles, who aims to add four gold medals to his impressive list of achievements by including the 4x400m relay event, finds himself getting advice from the Minions on how to jump higher – a comical yet surprisingly effective training strategy.
Shot put powerhouse Ryan Crouser, with two Olympic gold medals and multiple world titles under his belt, is also preparing for the Paris Olympics with the Minions’ unconventional assistance. Known for setting records in both indoor and outdoor shot put distances, Crouser is aiming for a three-peat in Paris, with the Minions even volunteering to be thrown to aid in his training sessions.
Meanwhile, Anna Hall, a rising star in the world of athletics with a North American indoor pentathlon record and a silver medal from the 2023 World Championships, joins in the Minions’ antics as she dances with them in the stands. The Minions’ presence interrupts each athlete’s focused training sessions, initially causing chaos with their energetic antics but ultimately bringing smiles to everyone involved.
The promo video captures the Minions’ signature chaotic yet endearing behavior as they take over the stadium, filling it with their own rendition of “Jump Around.” Despite their mischievous nature, the Minions manage to uplift the athletes, demonstrating that amidst the intense preparation for Olympic glory, a bit of humor and fun can be equally valuable.
Adding to the excitement generated by the Minions’ involvement in Olympic preparations, Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 is scheduled for release on July 3, marking the return of the beloved franchise after a seven-year hiatus. Following the global success of Minions: The Rise of Gru, which grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide, Despicable Me 4 reunites audiences with Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), Lucy (voiced by Kristen Wiig), and their daughters as they navigate new family dynamics with the arrival of Gru Jr.
The film introduces new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman, alongside Pierre Coffin reprising his role as the voice of the Minions. The storyline unfolds with Gru facing off against a new nemesis, Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Will Ferrell), and his girlfriend Valentina (voiced by Sofia Vergara), prompting the family to embark on a thrilling adventure.
With its promise of more Minions mayhem and laughter, Despicable Me 4 is set to captivate audiences once again, blending heartwarming family moments with uproarious comedy, just in time for a summer filled with both Olympic excitement and cinematic delight.
