The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) led a nationwide awareness initiative on Safer Internet Day, celebrated on February 11, 2025, to encourage safe and responsible internet usage. Under the theme ‘Together for a Better Internet’, the campaign sought to inform and raise awareness among internet users regarding cyber hygiene, safe online practices, and new cyber threats. This project was carried out as part of the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) initiative in partnership with NIC, NIXI, C-DAC, NIELIT, MyGov, NeGD, and several collaborating institutions.
In this comprehensive initiative, 1,521 awareness workshops were held across 35 States/UTs, 599 districts, 493 blocks/tehsils, and 134 gram panchayats, benefiting more than 3.08 lakh individuals. These workshops addressed essential subjects like cyber threat reduction, best practices in digital security, and responsible conduct online.
To enhance outreach, promotional messages and expert interviews were aired across India in 11 key Indian languages, addressing essential subjects like cyber hygiene practices, prevalent cyber threats, and the process for reporting cybercrimes via the toll-free National Cybercrime Helpline Number (1930). These communications were spread via FM stations, Prasar Bharati, and Vividh Bharati networks, reaching approximately 2.27 crore listeners.
An online awareness workshop, named ‘Navigating the Digital Highway: Safeguarding Your Online Journey’, was also conducted for officials from MeitY and other government ministries, departments, and organizations, involving 1,217 participants in discussions about digital safety. The session educated attendees on optimal cybersecurity practices and also showcased demonstrations of valuable security tools. The Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project, implemented by MeitY, aims to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and build skilled human resources in Information Security
