Defending ISL Shield champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants have bolstered their squad by signing Jamie Maclaren, the prolific Australian striker, to a four-year contract. Maclaren, aged 30, stands as the all-time leading scorer in Australia’s A-League with an impressive tally of 154 goals. His arrival is expected to significantly impact the team’s performance in the upcoming seasons.
Maclaren expressed his excitement about joining Mohun Bagan, highlighting the club’s storied history and ambitious goals as key factors in his decision. “I’ve been following Indian football for quite some time, from the era of Iain Hume, which was featured on Australian sports channels. The ISL has showcased some remarkable talents, and the main reasons for my choice are Mohun Bagan’s rich history and their aspirations, which align closely with my own. I’ve achieved a lot in Australia, and I’m eager to contribute to this already successful group of players and staff,” Maclaren stated.
Despite a stellar career, including his most recent appearance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and a previous stint in the 2022 World Cup, Maclaren’s signing with Mohun Bagan adds significant firepower to the team. His notable performances, such as being part of the Australian squad that faced Argentina in the 2022 World Cup Round of 16, underscore his credentials as a top-class striker.
Maclaren has also shown admiration for the passionate atmosphere in Indian football, particularly the Kolkata derby. “Having watched the Kolkata derby, the sight of over 60,000 fans is incredible. Derbies are special for fans who create a vibrant atmosphere. I’m here to join a successful squad and contribute to even greater achievements, continuing the legacy of being the best football club in India.”
His addition to Mohun Bagan’s lineup is particularly significant as he becomes the fourth Australian player in the squad. The move is expected to enhance team chemistry, with Maclaren joining compatriots like Dimitri Petratos and Jason Cummings. Maclaren’s contract, reportedly outside the salary cap alongside Apuia, positions him as one of the league’s highest-paid players, reflecting his value to the team.
In discussing his new teammates, Maclaren praised Petratos for his creative playmaking abilities and expressed confidence in their partnership. “I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside and against Dimitri Petratos and Jason Cummings. Dimi is a courageous playmaker, providing excellent passes for strikers. I’m excited about the prospect of playing with him and scoring many goals. My success in the A-League, with five Golden Boots and being the all-time top scorer, is a result of hard work and understanding my teammates’ movements. I believe that as long as I stay happy, fit, and in rhythm, goals will come,” he added.
Maclaren also spoke about his eagerness to make an impact, mentioning his anticipation to score his first goal for the team and the pride of sharing his birthday with a significant day in Mohun Bagan’s history. “I’m thrilled to represent this badge, this city, and fight for every game. Scoring my first goal will be an amazing experience. I’m aware of the high standards on and off the pitch, and I’m committed to giving my best every day so we can celebrate more trophies together. Sharing my birthday with an important date in the club’s history is an honor, and I look forward to seeing my jersey in the crowd. Let’s go!” he concluded.
