As the largest religious gathering in the world comes to an end, over 1 crore devotees are anticipated to join the last Amrit Snan of the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela on Wednesday, coinciding with Mahashivratri. The Uttar Pradesh government has put in place extensive security measures to manage the large number of pilgrims on the final day of Maha Kumbh.

To date, almost 64 crore devotees have bathed at the Triveni Sangam—the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—since the Maha Kumbh began on January 13. There have been a total of five Amrit Snans so far—on January 13, 14, 29, February 3, and 12. In the meantime, an even greater surge of worshippers is heading to Prayagraj to participate in the largest gathering in human history as trains, flights, and roadways are inundated.

In preparation for the convenience of devotees taking the holy dip tomorrow, authorities have assigned the Phaphamau Ghat for pilgrims arriving from Lucknow and Pratapgarh, whereas the Arail Ghat is set aside for visitors from Rewan, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Mirzapur. Additionally, the Sangam Ghat has been allocated for devotees coming from Kaushambi.

Regarding security measures, no vehicles will be allowed within the entire Mela area, whereas only those with passes can park in the specified parking zones. At the same time, 40 motorcycle police teams have been stationed on all key highways and roads that lead to Prayagraj. To ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic, diversions have been established. Officers at the level of Additional Director General and Inspector General will be positioned on the seven road routes linking Prayagraj.

As the final day of Kumbh falls on Mahashivratri, worshippers will be permitted to access all the Shiva temples in the city, where extra police forces have already been stationed to ensure law and order.

At the start of the Maha Kumbh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had estimated that more than 45 crore devotees would attend, a target that was met by February 11. Within the following three days, that figure surpassed 50 crore. Conducted biennially at three revered sites — Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik — and at Prayagraj every 12 years, the Kumbh Mela has lured countless devotees who feel that immersing themselves in the sacred rivers during this time offers salvation from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
