Musk’s Grok AI introduces Aurora, a photorealistic image generator with low limits.
Elon Musk just made Grok AI available to all X users, and hours after, Grok’s parent firm, xAI, released Aurora, its latest image-generation model, which can be accessed through the Grok assistant on X. However, within the first few hours of debut, some users lost access to Aurora, the cause of which remains unknown.
Aurora is an improved version of xAI’s original picture generating model, which was launched in October. When compared to other AI models, Aurora has less constraints and can generate graphics from nearly any prompt, including portrayals of famous individuals and copyrighted figures. Each image includes a watermark in the bottom-right corner to ensure transparency.
Responding to an X post, Musk has confirmed that “Aurora is still in beta and will improve very fast.” Despite its beta status, early user-generated content shows Aurora’s capability to create detailed, lifelike images, including controversial themes like violence and depictions of digital intellectual properties—areas where most AI image generators impose strict limits.
Aurora’s availability varies according to user tiers: free X users are limited to three image generations per day, whereas X Premium subscribers have unlimited access. According to TechCrunch, xAI is also building a standalone Grok app, which might be powered by the next Grok 3, following the company’s successful $6 billion investment round.
