A 30-year-old lady narrowly avoided injury on Thursday night in East Bengaluru when she decided to jump from a moving auto-rickshaw. The incident began when she noticed the driver going off course, traveling to an unfamiliar location despite her clear directions. Though the woman has not formally reported the incident to authorities, her husband, Azhar Khan, has posted the unsettling story on X (previously Twitter), tagging Bengaluru police. In his article, he stated that the driver was inebriated at the time of the event.

The woman, who had booked the auto-rickshaw using the Namma Yatri app, was traveling from Horamavu to Thanisandra. She knew something was awry when the driver began driving toward Hebbal rather than the regular route.

After interrogating him many times, she noticed the driver was not responding to her instructions to stop the vehicle. According to her husband, the driver’s erratic behavior prompted concerns, especially after the wife spotted the driver’s red eyes and other indicators of alcohol. “When the vehicle reached Nagavara, the driver made a sudden turn towards a flyover that wasn’t part of the route,” Khan told the press.

Despite her repeated screams for him to stop, the driver disregarded her, forcing the woman to leap out of the moving car as it slowed near the down ramp. Fortunately, she did not suffer any injuries. However, the experience was not finished.

After she escaped the car, the driver approached her and tried to get her to get back in, but she declined. She chose to pay for the ride online and hailed another car to get home. “This is a serious issue for women’s safety. If this can happen to my wife at 9 p.m., think how many other women are in similar situations when traveling late at night,” Khan remarked, according to a source.
