NCW Issues Final Notice to Nora Fatehi in ‘Sarke Chunar Teri’ Controversy

The National Commission for Women has granted actor Nora Fatehi a final opportunity to appear in person in connection with the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri, signalling a stricter stance on the issue. The commission has scheduled the next hearing for April 27 and has made it clear that Fatehi’s personal appearance is mandatory. During earlier proceedings, her legal representative had attended on her behalf, but the panel insisted that she must appear herself, underlining the seriousness of the matter.
The row centres on the song from the film KD: The Devil, which has faced criticism over its lyrics and choreography. The NCW has raised concerns that the content may be inappropriate and could negatively impact the portrayal of women in popular media. Officials have stressed that creative freedom must be exercised responsibly and should not undermine dignity.
In previous hearings, members of the film’s production team, including the lyricist and producers, appeared before the commission and issued a written apology. They acknowledged that the song may have hurt sentiments and assured the panel of their commitment to promoting more responsible content going forward.
The controversy has already had visible consequences, with the song being removed from digital platforms following public backlash and regulatory attention. The move came amid growing criticism on social media, where users questioned the messaging and presentation in the track.
Actor Sanjay Dutt, who is also associated with the film, had earlier been summoned in relation to the issue, reflecting the commission’s broad approach in examining accountability.
The case has reignited debate over the balance between artistic expression and social responsibility in the entertainment industry. While some argue for creative liberty, others emphasise the need for sensitivity in content that reaches mass audiences. As the next hearing approaches, the focus remains on whether Nora Fatehi will comply with the directive and how the outcome may influence future standards in film and music content.
