Netizens in shock hearing the price of hostel room

Manish Aman, a final-year MBBS student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Kalyani), West Bengal, went viral after disclosing the rent he pays on campus, just as social media users are finding it difficult to cope with the exorbitant rents for small apartments in places like Mumbai and Delhi. For roughly Rs 15 a month, he was able to reserve a room with a bathroom attached.
On X, Aman shared photos of his room and claimed that he was receiving significantly subsidized housing from his college. The basic room has a bathroom, a study table, and a single bed. “I got this single room with attached washroom at a cost of ₹15 per month,” he stated in his post.
While some X users were sceptical about the claim, others wished Aman well. One X user commented, “In Gurgaon or Mumbai, this would cost no less than Rs 12k.” Another user said, “I actually got a similar one for free when i was arrested.”
“In Mumbai, Rs 15 will get you a cream pav, not a room,” wrote a third user. One user commented, “Rs 15 a month? You must have travelled back to the 70s for that kind of rent.”
This narrative is comparable to one about AIIMS Deoghar that went viral in September. An MBBS student described in the video how he just pays Rs 15 a month for a dormitory room that comes with a bed, study table, chair, and cabinet.
