Recently about 4.40 am, garment businessman Ram Kumar Roy, a resident of Vaishali, Bihar, was on his way to Metiabruz ‘haat’ from Howrah Station in a taxi, with four companions. Close to his destination, four miscreants stopped the taxi and asked them to get off, threatening to kill them. Alarmed, Roy’s companions fled the spot, while the miscreants snatched cash worth Rs 2.85 lakh from him and also fled.
Using CCTV footage, the team from Metiabruz Police Station identified the four as Farhan Zaman Ansari, Faizam Ahmed, Md Sahil and Badsha. Ansari was detained the next day itself and admitted his involvement, and based on his statement, an amount of Rs 1.02 lakh has been recovered and seized. On further investigation, Ahmed and Sahil have been arrested a day later.. A hunt is on for the last absconding accused, as well as the rest of the robbed money.
All the arrested are being forwarded to the ACJM Court, Alipore with a prayer for remand. The court has granted police custody till 15.6.24
