Even if Congress leadership is changing in terms of age, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that reservations meant for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) would not be changed to accommodate Muslims. His comments were directed at Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, in response to Ulemas’ recent call for Muslim reservation.
While addressing a rally in Dhule district ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shah said that Ulemas met the Congress president and requested reservation for Muslims. “If reservation has to be given to Muslims, then reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs will have to be cut. Rahul Baba, not only you but even if your four generations were to come, they cannot cut the quota meant for SCs, STs and OBCs and give it to Muslims,” the union minister said.
He made it clear that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, would not be reinstated. “Even if Indira Gandhi were to return from heaven, Article 370 won’t be restored,” he said.
In response to Congress politician Sushilkumar Shinde’s previous statement about feeling uneasy while visiting Srinagar, he suggested that Shinde may now travel to Kashmir with his family in safety because of increased security.
Shah called the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra the “Aurangzeb fan club” and compared its strategy to that of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which he said upholds the principles of Veer Savarkar and Shivaji Maharaj. He further charged that in order to please particular factions, MVA leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray, had abandoned Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideals.
Additionally, he noted that MVA leaders have resisted plans to rename Aurangabad, build a temple dedicated to Ram, and repeal Article 370.Declaring that “ladli behnas” (women) in Maharashtra were backing the BJP’s lotus emblem, Shah expressed confidence in the BJP’s Mahayuti alliance and forecast a landslide win in the next elections.
Shah criticized the current Waqf law during the election rally, pointing to recent worries in Karnataka about the alleged designation of entire villages and ancient shrines as Waqf property. He declared that Congressman Rahul Gandhi and NCP leader Sharad Pawar are opposing a bill that would modify the Waqf Act. He declared, “PM Modi will amend the Waqf Act.”
Shah went on to compare economic performance, stating that Prime Minister Modi moved India’s economy up to the fifth rank in just ten years, whereas former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left it as the eleventh largest. “I assure you that India’s economy will rank third globally by 2027,” he declared.
