Nobody Said Anything Negative About Sourav Ganguly
Arun Dhumal, the incoming IPL chairman, and departing BCCI treasurer clarified the situation around Sourav Ganguly’s denial of a second term as board president on October 14 by claiming that nobody shouted a word against the former India captain. The upcoming slate of BCCI office holders has submitted their nominations, and on October 18 they will be chosen without opposition. Ganguly will be replaced as president by World Cup champion Roger Binny, Jay Shah will continue to serve as secretary, Rajeev Shukla will be re-elected to another term as vice president, Ashish Shelar will take over as treasurer, and Devaijit Saikia will serve as joint secretary.
According to Dhumal, all of the choices made prior to the nominations being filed involved Ganguly.
No BCCI president has held office in independent India for greater than three years, according to Dhumal. All of the media rumors that Dada was informed of or that a few members were against him are unfounded.
Nothing negative was spoken about Ganguly. Despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19, all of the Board members were incredibly pleased and satisfied with the entire team and the way the BCCI was handled over the past three years.
As the captain of India, Ganguly has had a highly illustrious career and is one of the best leaders in history. He led the entire team as an administrator, and we collaborated as one unit.
Dhumal continued by claiming that if Ganguly had accepted the IPL presidency, he would not have been a member of the new team. Because Ganguly declined the offer, Dhumal will take Brijesh Patel’s place as the new IPL chairman.
Along with Roger and the new group of individuals that went to submit the nomination, Ganguly was present. During the conversation, Dada was also spoken to. Roger, who is 67, would never have had a chance if he hadn’t received an offer to head the IPL (the age limit being 70).
The two new IPL clubs bringing in more than Rs 12000 crore and the IPL media rights fetching an astounding Rs 48390 crore for the following five years, according to Dhumal, were the high points of his term.
Speaking about the new regime, he stated that three of the five officer bearers—the president, joint secretary, and treasurer—are new. This came about following a conversation with every member. It also involves preserving a healthy balance and developing new talent for the board’s future operations. Nobody could be trained if the current slate of officeholders persisted. Now, the body is significantly smaller. Additionally, Dhumal stated that Ganguly’s departure was unrelated to politics.
