Onam Gamno Named Captain of Team India for Asian Cup Arm Wrestling

Arunachal Pradesh’s Onam Gamno has been appointed captain of Team India for the upcoming Asian Cup Arm Wrestling Championship, the Pro Panja League announced. The 27-year-old athlete, hailing from Ngopok village in East Siang district, has earned recognition for her impressive record in national and international competitions. Gamno previously secured silver and bronze medals at the 2024 Asian Cup held in Mumbai and has won two gold medals at the 2023 National Arm Wrestling Championship.
Joining her leadership team is Shrimant Jha from Chhattisgarh, who has been named vice-captain. A para-arm wrestler, Jha recently won a silver medal at the Hungary Para Arm Wrestling World Cup. His appointment underscores the growing inclusivity and acknowledgment of para-athletes in Indian arm wrestling.
The selection of Gamno and Jha has been widely welcomed by the arm wrestling community. Officials from the People’s Arm Wrestling Federation of India praised Gamno’s dedication and Jha’s resilience, highlighting their potential to inspire both performance and unity within the team.
Expressing pride in her new role, Gamno said she is determined to lead India with commitment and hopes to motivate young athletes, particularly from the Northeast. The Asian Cup offers an opportunity for Team India to showcase its strength and talent on the continental stage under its newly appointed leadership.
