OpenAI and Meta Platforms have engaged in individual talks with India’s Reliance Industries regarding possible collaborations to enhance their artificial intelligence services in the nation, according to technology news site The Information on Saturday.
A potential partnership being considered is between Reliance Jio and OpenAI to offer ChatGPT, as reported by The Information, which referenced two sources close to the situation.
According to the report, OpenAI has also talked with its staff about reducing the ChatGPT subscription fee to as low as a few dollars instead of $20 per month; however, it remains uncertain if OpenAI has consulted with Reliance about this potential price cut.
Reliance has mentioned the possibility of offering OpenAI’s models to its corporate clients via an application programming interface, or API, the Information report stated, noting that the conglomerate led by Mukesh Ambani also discussed the option of hosting and operating OpenAI models locally to ensure that local customer data is stored within India.
Specifically, Reliance has mentioned operating the Meta and OpenAI models in a three-gigawatt data center that the company intends to construct, claiming it to be the largest data center globally, situated in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Reliance Industries is among the largest conglomerates in India, involved in petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, retail, and green energy.
