Oppn mislead people on EVMs instead of accepting defeat: Mahayuti leaders
The ruling Mahayuti alliance accused opposition party leaders on Sunday of deceiving people about electronic voting machines (EVMs) rather than recognizing its defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections. In the November 20 elections, the Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP won 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, which included the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), secured only 46 seats.
The opposition bloc has since claimed EVM problems and demanded the use of voting sheets.
Speaking to reporters, Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant slammed the opposition for indulging in double standards. “It is because of the MVA’s double standards that the Samajwadi Party has parted from the alliance. Yesterday, they boycotted the oath-taking ceremony, and today, they will hopefully take oath as members, which will again highlight their double standards,” he said.
He claimed the opposition had come up with a fake narrative to mislead people instead of accepting defeat.
According to Maharashtra BJP chairman Chandrashekhar Bawankule, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, a veteran leader who is widely regarded, has been misleading people. “We admire Pawar, but he spreads falsehoods. He is confounding folks. “The opposition is hiding its failure,” he remarked in response to a question about a top politician’s statement expressing surprise that the opposition received more votes but won fewer seats.
Meanwhile, NCP SP leader Jitendra Awhad stated that opposition members had protested the curfew and arrests at Markadwadi village, Malshiras assembly constituency, Solapur, where people demanded a’repoll’ using ballot papers.
