On July 12, OPPO introduced its latest Reno 12 series in India, spearheaded by the Reno 12 Pro, marking the debut of advanced mobile artificial intelligence capabilities. This series includes two visually identical models, with the Reno 12 Pro distinguishing itself through an enhanced camera system and a dual-tone design on its rear cover. Despite its higher price tag on paper, the Reno 12 Pro promises more than meets the eye.

The OPPO Reno series is renowned for its distinctive design, and the Reno 12 Pro continues this legacy with a unique dual-glass finish on its back. The upper section features a matte finish, contrasting elegantly with the glossy lower portion, separated by a prominent glass strip bearing the OPPO logo. The rear camera setup, placed in a subtle rectangular bump, comprises three sensors aligned vertically.

While the back exudes premium quality, the front of the Reno 12 Pro captivates with its quad-curved glass design over a flat display, achieving a seamless, bezel-less appearance. This curved glass enhances both aesthetics and ergonomics, reducing accidental touches.

However, the glossy lower half and the camera module’s tendency to attract dust may require regular cleaning. Additionally, the smartphone exhibits slight wobbling when placed on flat surfaces, though it offers a comfortable grip and balanced weight distribution for extended use.

OPPO emphasizes durability with features like impact-resistant internal design and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, ensuring robustness without compromising on style. However, users are advised against extreme durability tests.

Display-wise, the OPPO Reno 12 Pro boasts a 6.7-inch fullHD+ flat display with quad-curved glass protection, delivering vibrant colors and optimal viewing angles. The 120 Hz refresh rate enhances the premium viewing experience, complemented by features like Adaptive Tone for automatic screen color adjustment based on ambient lighting.

Equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage, the Reno 12 Pro delivers smooth performance for daily tasks and casual gaming. However, occasional glitches like delayed keyboard responses may occur and can potentially be resolved through software updates.

Running on ColorOS 14 based on Android 14, the Reno 12 Pro offers enhanced animations and transitions, alongside useful features like the Smart Sidebar and AI-powered tools for improved multitasking and content management.

The highlight of the Reno 12 Pro is its camera capabilities, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, 50MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. While primary camera performance under natural light is impressive, color accuracy can be affected by software processing. The telephoto lens stands out for lifelike colors and consistent performance across various lighting conditions. The front-facing 50MP camera excels in capturing realistic tones and details.

For videography, the Reno 12 Pro supports 4K recording and includes features like Ultra Steady mode for stabilized video footage. However, performance with the ultra-wide lens in low light conditions may be underwhelming.

Priced at Rs 36,999 upwards, the OPPO Reno 12 Pro offers a blend of durability, premium design, and innovative AI features, making it an attractive option in the midrange segment. Despite some drawbacks like battery life and occasional performance glitches, the Reno 12 Pro appeals to users seeking a smartphone equipped with advanced AI capabilities for enhanced mobile experiences.
