Over A Dozen Locations In Jharkhand Are Raided By The ED In An Illegal Land-Grabbing Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), in connection with a money laundering investigation against persons trespassing on Indian Army property, reportedly searched over a dozen places in West Bengal and Jharkhand on November 4. Sources claim that there are eight places in Jharkhand and almost four locations in West Bengal where raids are being conducted. Sources claim that a number of locations were searched, including the residence and workplace of Amit Agrawal, a businessman with roots in Kolkata. Agrawal was previously imprisoned by the Enforcement Directorate, and the raids were prepared after he made a confession in the case, according to sources. According to reports, ‘land mafias’ and politicians worked together to illegally occupy a number of acres of Army land in Jharkhand.
Amit Agrawal’s arrest
The Enforcement Directorate detained Amit Agrawal last month in connection with a money laundering probe. Amit Agrawal was detained on July 31 by ED agents in connection with the theft of Rs 50 lakh from lawyer Rajiv Kumar in Kolkata. In exchange for Kumar removing his name from a public interest lawsuit filed in the Jharkhand High Court, Agrawal, who is currently detained in Jharkhand’s Birsa Munda Central Jail, is accused of handing Kumar money. In the PMLA court, the ED has also brought a prosecution case against Agrawal.
Stealing land in Jharkhand that belongs to the Indian Army
In connection with a complaint of stealing Army land, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out four raids on November 4 at various sites connected to a businessman from Jharkhand who is currently staying in Kolkata. According to ED sources, eight teams from the central investigation agency are conducting comparable operations throughout Jharkhand. Amit Agarwal, a businessman, is charged with stealing Indian Army-owned land in Jharkhand. On the northern outskirts of Kolkata, in Salt Lake, the first ED squad searched and raided Agarwal’s home. In Kolkata’s Nonapukur, the central business district, another team performed a similar raid and search operation at Agarwal’s auto parts office.
The ED has reportedly conducted raids at Amit Agarwal’s offices before, according to reports. In the past, agents from the central investigation agency carried out similar raids on this count twice in the previous year. In response to the raids, Dilip Ghosh, the national president of the BJP and a member of the Lok Sabha, claimed that West Bengal had developed into a center of corruption and that as a result, raids and search operations by federal authorities had become commonplace.
