News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 26th January 2025
On Saturday, the Central government revealed the winners of the prestigious Padma Awards. These awards are among India’s top civilian distinctions and are declared each year on the eve of Republic Day. The awards are presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for extraordinary and notable service), Padma Bhushan (notable service of higher distinction) and Padma Shri (notable service).
The award aims to acknowledge accomplishments across various sectors or areas that include a component of public service. The Padma Awards are awarded based on suggestions from the Padma Awards Committee, formed annually by the prime minister.
This year, 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards have been conferred by the government. The President presents these honors during a formal event hosted at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, typically in March or April each year.
