Bangladesh has asked a team from the Pakistan Army to train its soldiers. After 53 years since the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict, the Pakistani Army will return to Bangladesh. A Major General in the Pakistani Army will oversee the training of Bangladeshi Army personnel. According to sources, training will begin in February 2025. The Army Training and Doctrine Command headquarters will host the first part of training in Momenshahi Cantonment. The initial portion of training will be finished in one year. Later, the Pakistan Army would train all ten commands of the Bangladesh Army.
General Shahir Shamshad Mirza, head of the Pakistan Army’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, issued a training request to Bangladesh in November. Bangladesh Army leader Waker-Uz-Zaman approved the plan and offered a formal invitation to the Pakistan Army to train its soldiers.
Bangladesh has also ordered weapons and ammunition from Pakistan. Between September and December, Bangladesh bought 40,000 rounds of ammunition. It is three times as much as previous year. Last year, the country ordered 12,000 rounds of ammo. In addition, the nation bought 2000 rounds of tank ammunition and 40 tons of RDX.
The Bangladesh Navy will conduct a combined drill with the Pakistan Navy at Karachi Port. The combined exercise has been called ‘Aman 2025.’ After a 15-year hiatus, Bangladesh is participating in such an exercise. Bangladesh did not participate in the drill while Sheikh Hasina was in power. Hasina even refused to halt Pakistan’s Taimur warship. A defense expert expressed concern over the proximity of the two countries. He believes that Bangladesh poses a threat to the Siliguri corridor. It connects the northeastern area to the rest of India. He also stated that the threat of Islamic extremists on the Eastern side will increase as their proximity grows over time.
