Pakistan Cricket Board Proposes Venues for 2025 Champions Trophy Amidst India Participation Concerns

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a significant step forward in its preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy by proposing three venues to host the prestigious tournament. The proposal comes after the International Cricket Council (ICC) dispatched a team to conduct assessments, indicating progress towards finalizing arrangements for the event.
ESPNCricinfo reports that the cities of Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi have been identified as potential venues in the PCB’s proposal. With the Champions Trophy slated for the mid-February window, the PCB has been diligently working to upgrade these venues to meet international standards. The last edition of the tournament took place in 2017, where Pakistan emerged victorious against India in a thrilling final, capturing the title. Initially presumed to be the final edition, the ICC revived the Champions Trophy for the 2023-27 cycle, with Pakistan securing hosting rights for the 2025 edition.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi provided insights into the board’s progress during a press conference held in Lahore. He announced, “We’ve sent the schedule for the matches in Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy,” underscoring the collaborative efforts between the PCB and the ICC. Naqvi further elaborated on the constructive engagement with the ICC’s security team, highlighting ongoing discussions regarding stadium upgrades to ensure a successful tournament in Pakistan.
However, amidst the preparations, a significant concern looms over India’s participation in the tournament. The unresolved issue stems from India’s reluctance to send a team to Pakistan, a stance demonstrated during the previous year’s Asia Cup. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was compelled to adopt a hybrid model for the event, with India’s matches predominantly held in Sri Lanka due to security concerns.
The question of India’s participation remains a critical aspect of the tournament’s success and overall dynamics. The PCB’s efforts to host the Champions Trophy in Pakistan may face hurdles if India maintains its stance on traveling to the country.
