Passengers Will Now Receive Free Meals From Indian Railways

The IRCTC will install new kitchens and renovate existing ones. On some Rajdhani and Duronto trains, packages with airtight covers have been introduced, and food trays are now constructed of biodegradable material.

The Rajdhanis, Shatabdi, and Durontos are premium trains, and the railroads will provide free food to passengers on these trains. There is a catch, though. Regardless of the reason for the delay, the complimentary meal—vegetarian or not—will only be offered if the train is delayed for more than two hours. Given that these are deluxe trains whose operation is prioritized, free lunches are not likely to be offered frequently.

The goal of the 1999 establishment of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) was to improve the standard of food preparation.

IRCTC is required to install new kitchens and renovate old ones in accordance with that order.

The quality of the meals supplied to passengers has improved as a result of a redesign of the on-board menus. On some Rajdhani and Duronto trains, packages with airtight covers have been introduced, and food trays are now constructed of biodegradable material.
