Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again underscored the gravity of crimes against women, labeling them as an “unpardonable sin” that should not go unpunished. Speaking at the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon on Sunday, the Prime Minister emphasized the nation’s commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of women. He reiterated that any crime against women is a severe offense, deserving of strict and unwavering justice.
During his address, Modi highlighted that the empowerment and protection of women are paramount to the country’s progress. He stressed that safeguarding mothers, sisters, and daughters is not just a governmental duty but also a societal responsibility. The Prime Minister has consistently brought attention to this issue, notably during his speeches from the Red Fort, where he has repeatedly expressed his deep concern over the plight of women facing violence and discrimination.
Modi’s remarks come at a time of national outrage over the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident has sparked widespread protests and calls for justice across the country. The doctor’s body, bearing severe injury marks, was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital’s chest department on August 9, sending shockwaves through the community.
In response to this heinous crime, the Prime Minister made a strong appeal to all political parties and state governments, urging them to treat crimes against women with the utmost seriousness. He asserted that those responsible for such acts should face severe consequences and that anyone aiding the perpetrator in any capacity must also be held accountable. Modi emphasized that negligence at any level—be it in hospitals, schools, government institutions, or police systems—must not be tolerated, and everyone involved should be subject to scrutiny and justice.
The Prime Minister’s firm stance reflects his commitment to ensuring that crimes against women do not go unpunished. He emphasized that the message must be clear from the highest levels of authority down to the grassroots: these acts are inexcusable, and those guilty must be brought to justice. Modi’s words resonate with a broader call for accountability, stressing that the protection of life and the dignity of women is a responsibility shared by both society and the government.
This latest call to action follows Modi’s earlier remarks during his Independence Day speech, where he urged state governments to take crimes against women seriously and ensure that perpetrators are swiftly and decisively punished. The Prime Minister’s ongoing focus on this issue reflects the pressing need for a collective and resolute response to the violence and injustice faced by women in India.
As the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to probe the Kolkata doctor’s case, with the prime suspect, Sanjoy Roy, currently in judicial custody, Modi’s words serve as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding justice and safeguarding the rights and dignity of women across the nation. The Prime Minister’s condemnation of these crimes as an unpardonable sin underscores the urgent need for a societal and governmental commitment to eradicating violence against women and ensuring a safer, more just future for all.
