Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp critique against the Opposition for disrupting previous Parliament sessions as he kicked off the Monsoon Session on Monday. Addressing lawmakers, Modi urged all political parties to work together for the nation’s progress over the next five years.
Speaking to the media before the Budget Session in New Delhi, Modi condemned what he termed as the “negative politics” of some parties, accusing them of using Parliament’s time to mask their own failures. He alleged that Opposition parties had tried to prevent him from speaking in the last session, asserting that such tactics have no place in a democracy.
Reflecting on the previous session, Modi remarked, “In the first session of Parliament, an attempt was made to stifle the voice of the government, which has been elected with a majority by 140 crore people of the country. For 2.5 hours, an attempt was made to suppress the voice of the Prime Minister. They tried to not let me speak in Parliament last session. The people of the country have sent us for the country and not for the party. This Parliament is for the country, not for the party.”
On the eve of presenting the Union Budget, Modi emphasized that the Budget would set the course for the next five years and lay the foundation for achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. “This is the Budget session. The guarantees that I have been giving, we are moving forward to implement those guarantees on the ground,” he stated. “This Budget is an important Budget of the Amrit Kaal. The opportunity of five years that we have, this budget will decide the direction of that journey as well as lay the foundation for fulfilling the dream of Viksit Bharat in 2047.”
Modi highlighted the significance of the Budget session as a pivotal moment in India’s democratic journey. He noted that his government is returning to power for a third term after 60 years, marking a historic continuity. “Today is the first Monday of Sawan. An important session is starting on this auspicious day. I extend my greetings to the countrymen on the first Monday of Sawan. The monsoon session of Parliament is starting today. Today the whole country is looking at it. This should be a positive session,” Modi remarked.
The Prime Minister’s comments come at a time when the political climate in Parliament has been highly contentious. His call for unity and cooperation underscores the challenges of governance in a highly polarized environment. The Budget session, seen as crucial for setting economic and developmental priorities, is expected to address various critical issues facing the nation.
Modi’s emphasis on fulfilling his government’s guarantees reflects a commitment to delivering on promises made to the electorate. The vision of a developed India by 2047 aligns with long-term strategic goals, aiming to transform the country’s socio-economic landscape.
As the Monsoon Session unfolds, all eyes will be on how effectively the government can navigate through opposition and implement its agenda. Modi’s call for a positive and cooperative session highlights the need for constructive dialogue and collective effort in addressing India’s challenges and steering the country towards a prosperous future. The session’s outcomes will be crucial in shaping the nation’s trajectory in the coming years.
