Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasized the importance of adhering to parliamentary rules and conduct for MPs of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In a meeting with NDA MPs, PM Modi also encouraged them to develop expertise in civic matters relevant to their constituencies.
During the address, PM Modi highlighted the opposition’s displeasure with him, noting that for the first time, a non-Congress leader has become prime minister for a third consecutive term, according to sources from the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The Prime Minister advised MPs to thoroughly study issues before commenting on them publicly. This guidance underscores the importance of informed discourse, particularly when engaging with the media.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju conveyed PM Modi’s recommendation for MPs to visit the PradhanmantriSangrahalaya, a museum that showcases the journey of Indian Prime Ministers from Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi. Rijiju emphasized that the museum is an apolitical effort aimed at educating the public about the contributions of all Prime Ministers.
PM Modi reminded the MPs that every member of Parliament serves the nation, regardless of their party affiliation. He urged NDA MPs to prioritize the country in their work and stressed the importance of following parliamentary rules and conduct to become effective representatives.

Gandhi’s actions, which included turning his back on the Speaker and speaking out of turn, were criticized by Rijiju as unbecoming of parliamentary conduct. Rijiju urged NDA MPs not to emulate such behavior.
Although Gandhi’s speech was not directly mentioned in the NDA meeting, Rijiju noted that PM Modi’s messages are broadly applicable. On Monday, Gandhi accused the ruling party of dividing people along communal lines, prompting an interruption from PM Modi, who accused Gandhi of portraying the entire Hindu community as violent. Several parts of Gandhi’s speech, including remarks on Hinduism, were later expunged from the parliamentary records.
