Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity. The newly launched facility is set to become a major gateway for North India, easing pressure on the already busy Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Developed in multiple phases, the airport begins operations with its first phase capable of handling around 12 million passengers annually. Authorities have outlined ambitious expansion plans, aiming to scale capacity to nearly 70 million passengers in the coming years. The project also features an extensive cargo hub, which is expected to enhance logistics efficiency and boost trade across the region.

Strategically located in western Uttar Pradesh, the airport is poised to improve connectivity for several key cities, including Noida, Greater Noida, Agra, and Ghaziabad. Improved access is expected to reduce travel time and facilitate smoother domestic and international travel for millions of passengers. The development is also likely to play a crucial role in supporting tourism, business travel, and export-oriented industries.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Modi highlighted the airport as a symbol of India’s rapid infrastructure growth and a key component of the government’s vision for a developed nation. He emphasized that such large-scale projects not only improve connectivity but also generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity at the local and regional levels.

The launch of the airport is expected to create jobs in sectors such as aviation, logistics, hospitality, and retail, benefiting local communities and businesses. It also reflects the government’s broader push to modernize infrastructure and position India as a global aviation hub.
