The Congress took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking why he is adamantly refusing to travel to the troubled state of Manipur and claiming that he will begin his “periodic foreign jaunt” on Saturday in an effort to make domestic political points. The jab was made by the opposition party as Prime Minister Modi embarks on a three-nation visit that includes stops in Nigeria, Guyana, and Brazil for the annual G20 Summit starting on Saturday.

“For the next 3 days, we will be spared the non-biological PM’s lie-surplus, dignity-deficit election campaign. He is off on his periodic foreign jaunt, where he will attempt to score domestic political points rather than engage in any pretence of statesmanship,” said Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh.

For next 3 days, we will be spared the non-biological PM’s lie-surplus, dignity-deficit election campaign. He is off on his periodic foreign jaunt, where he will attempt to score domestic political points rather than engage in any pretence of statesmanship. But why is Mr  Narendra Modi steadfastly refusing to visit the troubled state of Manipur that has been torn apart so tragically since May 2023?” he added.

The prime minister’s refusal to do so, according to Ramesh, is just incomprehensible. He claimed that the people of Manipur, who have witnessed and still endure a great deal of pain and suffering on a daily basis, undoubtedly merit such a visit. In addition to criticizing the Center for how it handled the situation in the state, the Congress has been blaming Prime Minister Modi for not traveling to Manipur. Since May of last year, ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei clans has killed over 200 people in Manipur.
