PM to visit Varanasi today to inaugurate airport

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Varanasi, his parliamentary seat, to inaugurate a number of airport improvements that will cost more than ₹6,100 crore. Around 2:00 PM, he will open the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital, which will offer thorough examinations and treatments for a range of eye disorders. He would later inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for other development projects in Varanasi at around 4:15 PM, according to news agencies.
According to an official statement, Prime Minister Modi will lay the groundwork for a number of projects at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi as part of his commitment to improving connectivity. These projects include a new terminal building, runway expansion, and other related works that will cost approximately ₹2,870 crore.
Along with projects at Darbhanga airport worth about ₹910 crore and Bagdogra airport worth about ₹1,550 crore, he will also lay the foundation stone for a New Civil Enclave at Agra airport, which is valued at about ₹570 crore. The new terminal buildings at Rewa, Maa Mahamaya, Ambikapur, and Sarsawa airports, valued at more than ₹220 crore, will be inaugurated by the prime minister.
According to the statement, “these airports’ combined passenger handling capacity will increase to more than 2.3 crore passengers annually.” The historical buildings in the area will serve as inspiration for several aspects of the airport designs. Prime Minister Modi will unveil Phases 2 and 3 of the Varanasi Sports Complex’s renovation, which is valued at over ₹210 crore and was made possible by funding from the Smart City Mission and the Khelo India program, in keeping with his objective for first-rate sports facilities.
The goal of this renovation is to build a cutting-edge sports complex including a National Center of Excellence, player housing, a sports science center, indoor shooting ranges, combat sports arenas, and practice fields for a variety of sports. He will also open a public pavilion at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium in Lalpur, as well as 100-bed hostels for both boys and girls.
The prime minister will launch tourism development projects in Sarnath’s Buddhist-related districts. These improvements include, but are not limited to, the installation of pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, new sewer lines, improved drainage systems, and designated vending areas with contemporary designer vending carts to support regional handicraft sellers. The prime minister will also launch a number of other projects, such as the renovation and beautifying of parks and the construction of tourism development projects at Banasur Temple and Gurudham Temple.
Speaking on the PM’s visit here, Commissioner of Varanasi Kaushal Raj Sharma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a program in Varanasi on October 20. He will lay the foundation stone of several projects; he will address the public also… He will lay the foundation stone for 23 projects from Varanasi.”
