Indian para-badminton ace Pramod Bhagat added another milestone to his glittering career by clinching his sixth men’s SL3 singles gold medal at the BWF Para Badminton World Championships on Friday. The seasoned shuttler delivered a composed and dominant performance in the final to reaffirm his supremacy in the category.
Bhagat defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Al Imran in straight games, winning 21-12, 21-18 to seal the title. The victory marked his fourth consecutive world championship triumph in singles and his sixth overall, making him the most successful player in SL3 history.
Competing in the SL3 classification — reserved for standing athletes with significant lower-limb impairment — Bhagat once again showcased his trademark agility, sharp net play and tactical awareness. At 37, the Indian veteran demonstrated that he remains a force to be reckoned with on the global stage.
The triumph is particularly significant as it comes after a challenging period in Bhagat’s career. The former Paralympic gold medallist had faced an 18-month suspension over whereabouts-related anti-doping violations, which ruled him out of key international events. His latest victory signals a strong comeback and underlines his resilience and determination.
Bhagat’s achievement further boosts India’s growing stature in para sports and adds to the country’s medal tally at the championships. With this historic sixth crown, he continues to inspire aspiring athletes while cementing his legacy as one of the greatest para-badminton players in the world.
