Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP, criticized the government on Thursday for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the Lok Sabha sessions, raising concerns that it may have been dodging opposition concerns.
In response to Union Minister JP Nadda’s statement in the Rajya Sabha today that Rahul Gandhi is “naive,” Priyanka Gandhi stated that the Leader of the Opposition ought to be permitted to speak freely in Parliament.
“Is this a way to talk about anyone? He should be allowed to speak. What are they scared of — that he will quote from a book? Or are they scared of the Epstein files? Or that we will question them about the India USA due to which farmers will suffer?” she asked.
The Wayanad MP was citing reports about PM Modi and his formal visit to Israel that were circulating from Epstein files. The government has dismissed the allegations as ludicrous and unfounded. As Parliament reconvened earlier in the day amidst protests, the Rajya Sabha saw heated discussions amidst many interruptions and the controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s postponed speech in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
In his remarks, Nadda accused the Opposition of deliberately stalling proceedings. “You did not let the House function. I strongly condemn the allegation that democracy is in danger. You must understand this within the party as well. In a democracy, things should be done democratically. Don’t let the party become hostage to a naive child.”
