Rahul Patil Named CTO of Anthropic in Major Leadership Overhaul

Anthropic has appointed Rahul Patil as its new Chief Technical Officer (CTO), succeeding co-founder Sam McCandlish, who will now serve as Chief Architect. The reshuffle is part of a strategic leadership restructuring aimed at strengthening the company’s technical operations amid the rapid growth of artificial intelligence initiatives.
Patil, a PESIT, Bengaluru graduate, holds a Master’s in Computer Science from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Washington. With over two decades of experience in engineering leadership, he previously served as CTO at Stripe, where he oversaw infrastructure and global operations. He has also held senior roles at Microsoft, Amazon Kinesis, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, bringing extensive expertise in large-scale technology management to Anthropic.
In his new role, Patil will oversee critical areas including compute, infrastructure, and inference, while McCandlish will focus on pre-training and large-scale model training. Both executives will report directly to Daniela Amodei, Anthropic’s president.
Patil expressed excitement about the opportunity, stating that AI presents “endless possibilities” and emphasizing the collaborative effort required to turn these innovations into reality. His appointment reflects Anthropic’s commitment to strengthening its engineering leadership as the company continues to expand its AI capabilities.
