Rajinikanth, who was on the verge of founding his own political party, suddenly looks to have withdrawn completely from politics. In fact, his present posture is such that he avoids discussing social issues, such as women’s safety. Now, a video of him, popularly known as “Thalaivar” (leader) by his fans, declining to respond to a reporter’s question about women’s safety in Tamil Nadu has gone viral on social media and garnered a lot of attention because it comes on the heels of a recent case in which a student was sexually assaulted at Anna University, Chennai.
When Rajinikanth was recently sighted at Chennai International Airport, he was swarmed by fans and media. Speaking about the status of his forthcoming film Coolie, which is now in production, the actor claimed that 70% of the filming is completed, with a fresh schedule set for January 13 to 28. However, when a journalist brought up the issue of women’s safety in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth stopped, stating, “I have already said not to ask me political questions, ok?” He then walked away, avoiding more questioning.
Rajinikanth’s possible political debut had sparked national interest for decades before he opted not to pursue it. He has previously spoken on public topics like as the Kaveri River water conflict, the Hogenakkal Falls water project, and the Thoothukudi violence, among others, and has received criticism for doing so. In 2020, Rajinikanth revealed plans to start his political party in January 2021, coinciding with the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election. However, just days before he was set to release further information, he announced that he would not be entering politics owing to health issues, thereby ending years of anticipation.
