Beginning on Thursday night and lasting till the early hours of Friday, a series of earthquakes rocked parts of Gujarat’s Rajkot district. All of the earthquakes were classified as “micro” or “minor” on the Richter Scale, and no fatalities or property damage were reported. In just 12 hours, up to nine tremors were reported. The final earthquake was registered at 08:34 am on Friday, while the first was felt at 08:43 pm on Thursday.
The strongest earthquake recorded a rating of only 3.8, indicating that the intensity of the earthquakes varied somewhat in range. On the Richter Scale, magnitudes between less than 1 and 2.9 are classified as “Micro.” Similarly, the ‘Minor’ range includes magnitudes between 3.0 and 3.9.
On the Richter Scale, four of the nine earthquakes were larger than Magnitude 3. The weakest one had a magnitude of 2.7. Residents of the Rajkot district were forced to flee their homes because to some of the harsher shocks.
The epicenter of every earthquake was situated between 27 and 30 kilometers northwest of Upleta. Seismic activity on such a range typically occurs in Gujarat’s Kachchh area. Rajkot is experiencing a cluster of earthquakes that are thought to be extremely unusual.
Earthquakes of a magnitude of less than 4 should not be taken seriously, according to representatives of the Institute of Seismological Research in Gandhinagar. They did, however, add that it is necessary to investigate the reason why there have been so many of these earthquakes in such a short time. Such seismic activity is not very rare after the monsoon season, even if the afflicted area of Rajkot does not lay above any known fault line.
