Former President Ram Nath Kovind has become the first Indian head of state to feature in a devotional film, marking a unique milestone in the country’s cinematic and spiritual landscape. The film, titled Mera Namokar, showcases Kovind reciting the revered Namokar Mantra along with his wife Savita Kovind and daughter Swati Kovind.
The devotional project was launched at the Mere Mahavir 2.0 – Mera Namokar event, held at New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam to commemorate the 2552nd Nirvana Mahotsav of Lord Mahavir. Produced by the Bhagwan Mahavir Deshna Foundation, the film is directed by Subhash Oswal Jain, Anil Kumar Jain, Rajeev Jain, and Manoj Kumar Jain.
Kovind, who served as India’s 14th President from 2017 to 2022, expressed deep personal satisfaction at being part of the initiative. He described the experience of chanting the Namokar Mantra with his family as spiritually uplifting, saying it filled them with “positive energy and inner peace.”
According to the film’s creators, Mera Namokar aims to introduce the power and meaning of the Jain Namokar Mantra to a wider audience through a contemporary devotional format. It seeks to bridge traditional spirituality with modern visual storytelling while promoting Lord Mahavir’s universal teachings of peace and compassion.
The event also featured a soulful performance by devotional singer Vicky D Parekh, whose Jain bhajans added to the atmosphere of reverence. Organisers said the film reflects the timeless principles of ahimsa (non-violence), aparigraha (non-possession), and atma-shuddhi (self-purification), which remain relevant in today’s fast-paced world.
Kovind’s participation in the project has been widely praised as a dignified gesture that underscores the enduring connection between faith, culture, and national identity.
