Former Union minister and BJP figure Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the Congress on Saturday, stating that its leader Rahul Gandhi should find a new mentor since he lacks awareness of the facts, as he reproached the opposition party regarding the Emergency.

During a debate in the Lok Sabha commemorating 75 years of the Constitution’s adoption, Prasad stated that the Constitution’s framers were aware that Indian heritage is inherently secular, as noted in the “Rigveda”. He stated that the original Constitution featured images of Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman, and Mughal emperor Akbar, but did not include Babar and Aurangzeb.

He mentioned that in a theoretical scenario, if the Constitution were created today, the opposition would have objected to the inclusion of such images. Criticizing the Congress for imposing Emergency in the nation, the former law minister stated that thousands of individuals were imprisoned and opposition figures were attacked.  He stated that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has arrived here after confronting lathis (sticks) and bullets during the Emergency, unlike those who belong to a family.

Prasad also criticized the Congress for not acknowledging the contributions of leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He asserted that none of the Congress leaders mentioned their names in their addresses.
