Afghanistan’s cricketing icon, Rashid Khan, has ignited widespread speculation about his participation in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) by removing the Lahore Qalandars’ name from his social media bio. This move follows a tragic incident in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, where Pakistani aerial strikes resulted in the deaths of eight civilians, including three local cricketers. The players—Kabeer, Sibghatullah, and Haroon—were reportedly killed after returning from a friendly match in Sharana, the provincial capital.
In response to the tragedy, Rashid Khan condemned the attacks as “immoral and barbaric,” emphasizing that targeting civilian infrastructure constitutes a severe violation of human rights. He expressed solidarity with the victims and supported the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s (ACB) decision to withdraw from upcoming fixtures against Pakistan, stating, “Our national dignity must come before all else.”
The 27-year-old leg-spinner, who has been a key player for the Lahore Qalandars since 2021 and has contributed to their three PSL titles, has yet to officially announce his stance regarding the upcoming season. His recent actions have fueled rumors of a potential boycott, though no formal statement has been made.
This development has intensified discussions about the intersection of sports and geopolitics, highlighting how international conflicts can influence athletes’ decisions and affiliations.
