Governor Shri R. N. Ravi Emphasises Constitutional Values, Inclusivity and Dignity for All

Kolkata, April 19, 2026

A Regional Dialogue on Social Justice was organised today at National Library, Kolkata by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) in association with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIS), West Bengal. The seminar brought together policymakers, academicians and other stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening social justice and Constitutional awareness.

The Governor of West Bengal, Shri R. N. Ravi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Chairperson of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Dr. Kishore Makwana; Member of NCSC Dr. Partha Biswas and Director of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies Dr. Swarup Prasad Ghosh, among others.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor underscored the foundational role of the Indian Constitution in safeguarding the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He paid tribute to Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for his visionary leadership in framing a Constitution that ensures equality, justice and dignity for all citizens.

Shri Ravi also emphasised the importance of creating awareness about constitutional rights, particularly among the marginalised and underprivileged sections of society. He called for eliminating social discrimination and making Constitutional provisions more accessible and understandable to every citizen. He further highlighted the need for greater public participation in nation-building and reiterated the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, where every individual lives with dignity, equality and opportunity.

Other speakers of the seminar stressed the importance of social unity and cohesion, urging collective efforts to remove divisions within society. They highlighted that an inclusive and equitable society is essential for sustainable national development.

On the occasion, the “Tapasili Ratna Samman” was conferred upon five eminent personalities for their contributions in diverse fields:

Shri Debasish Biswas – Mountaineer

Shri Rabin Bal Deb – Sports Personality

Shri Goutam Brahma

Dr. Basudeb Mandal – Educationist

The seminar reaffirmed the commitment of institutions and stakeholders towards strengthening social justice, promoting Constitutional awareness and ensuring inclusive growth, aligned with the vision of an equitable and developed India.
