“Return to Festivities”- Mamata Banerjee

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 9th September 2024

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, claimed on Monday that the Center was plotting to quell the public’s protest over the reported rape and killing of a doctor at a state-run hospital last month.
She added that it was being done by various Left parties.
Speaking during an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat in Nabanna, Banerjee denied a campaign alleging that she had given money to the parents of the deceased doctor.
Banerjee advised everyone to “return to festivities” because Durga Puja is quickly approaching.

“I have never offered money to the deceased doctor’s family, this is nothing but slander. I have told the parents that if they wanted to do something in their daughter’s memory, our government is with them. I know when to speak what,” Banerjee said.

In the wake of the protests, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has offered to step down, according to Banerjee, who also oversees the home department, but “we need someone who knows law and order ahead of Durga puja”.
The young physicians were also asked to return to work as soon as possible by the Bengal CM.
